Amazon gets serious about self-driving cars by dropping more than $1 billion on Zoox

Gambar
Amazon, like Waymo, Uber, and Tesla, appears to want to build fleets of autonomous cars.  The retail giant acquired self-driving startup Zoox for more than $1 billion, The Information reported Friday. The Financial Times has a similar report, claiming that the actual value of the acquisition is more than $1.2 billion.  Zoox itself confirmed the news in an Instagram post. "We are delighted to announce that Zoox is teaming up with @amazon. We have made great strides in creating autonomous mobility from the ground up, and are excited to continue working with our exceptionally talented team to realize that vision," the post says.  The Wall Street Journal reported on the acquisition talks in May, though the deal wasn't finished at the time.  Zoox, which is headquartered in California and has more than 1,000 employees, has spent the last six years working on technology that would allow a "fully autonomous" car to drive both on city roads and highways, with a

Finding kid toys that are both engaging and entertaining can be a challenge. These days, it's almost like everything is either too flashy and complicated or isn't really something preschoolers and toddlers actually want to play with for more than a few minutes. Skip Hop's new toy collection is thoughtfully designed to eliminate the challenges parents often face when looking for age-appropriate, stimulating, and creative toys. Whether your child is into playing games, pretend food play, or just needs a good, old-fashioned rolling toy that will keep their minds and hands occupied, Skip Hop has it. New and improved plush toys designs with sensory stimulation built right in are ideal for teething tots, while preschoolers can build brain power playing games like the animal-themed memory match. Aberdeen woman stole nearly £1000 of meat flowers and dog toys in bizarre shoplifting spree

Gambar
An Aberdeen woman stole nearly £1,000 of goods in a series of thefts from Aberdeen stores. Sharon Baxter, whose address was given as Middlefield Terrace, targeted several shops between May 9 and May 24. The 51-year-old made off with food, meat, flowers, cosmetics, electrical items and even dog toys and dog leads during the spree. The items were sneaked out of the Coop, Marks and Spencer, Home Bargains and Boots and the total cost of the stolen goods was estimated to be £966.81. Appearing at Aberdeen Sheriff Court for sentencing today, Baxter pleaded guilty to the thefts. Defence agent Ian Hardie said his client had long battled with drug addiction and was now "exhausted" by this lifestyle – and eager to change her ways. Sheriff Graham Buchanan nevertheless imposed a prison sentence on Baxter. He said: "There were a large number of thefts, and some where the value was quite substantial. "A lot of the property was not recovered." He sentenced he

Doggo plays with kid̢۪s toy cars child̢۪s reaction is priceless. Watch

Many parents may agree to the fact that childhood is a great time to instil virtuous qualities in one's kid. 'Sharing is caring' maybe the oldest moral lesson children are taught about. This boy's parents seem to have done a fantastic job in explaining this principle to the youngling because he isn't just happy but ecstatic about sharing his Hot Wheels with his doggo. Posted to Reddit on June 20, this clip is captioned, "Our dog started playing with my son's Hot Wheels". The recording shows a young fellow and his doggo sitting next to a Hot Wheels racing track. A toy car runs through the plastic route. The canine carefully watches the play vehicle's movements and even pokes its nose into the setup a few times. The child giggles wildly, unable to keep his cool over the interest his pet is showing in his playthings. Big W toy sale̢۪s surprise top sellers as families move away from high-tech gadgets and embrace tradition

Gambar
Forget the latest high-tech gadgets — jigsaw puzzles and board games are tipped to be among the top sellers as one of the State's biggest toy sales gets under way. Big W's Toy Mania sale is starting today. And a report has found that because so many parents have been spending more time cooped up with the kids, the more traditional toys have risen in popularity. Sales of children's jigsaw puzzles have jumped 225 per cent compared with this time last year. The shop's emerging trends report showed 55 per cent of parents have been spending more time playing with their children since isolation started. It found that 83 per cent of parents were using toys for learning and development. This year, according to Big W, WA families have ranked Lego their number one toy, followed by jigsaws, boardgames, the ever popular vehicles and items based on popular characters, such as Toy Story, Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig. BIG W chief toy buyer Christine Faulkner said the findings of the repo

Mini Review: Super Toy Cars 2

Gambar
Racing around everyday domestic environments in dinky toy cars isn't a fresh concept for Switch owners. Not only have we already had the original Super Toy Cars, but Table Top Racing: World Tour - Nitro Edition, too. Super Toy Cars 2 doesn't exactly have novelty on its side, then. Unfortunately, it doesn't have an awful lot else to recommend it, either – not with the Switch library being so well stocked with high-class casual racers. This game's angle is that it combines Mario Kart's bright and bouncy item-driven action with a little of Burnout's automotive violence, but the resultant game feels like it's come out of a chop shop, with its constituent parts only just about holding together. For all that, Super Toy Cars 2 handles surprisingly well. The racing physics here fall somewhere in between modern-day Mario Kart and OutRun 2, with a power drift system (just hold A while steering) enabling you to carve through corners whilst charging an immediate boo

Durable Car Backseat Organizers Are Must-Haves for Parents

Gambar
Even if you only have your kids in the car for five minutes, it looks like a tornado has hit the backseat. There are dirty little shoe prints all over the back of the front seats, toys are strewn on the floor and someone spilled their bottled water somehow. Car backseat organizers help protect your car seats and encourage your kids to keep everything organized. The covers go over the back of the front seat like a reverse bib and attach around the sides of the seats. You won't feel the buckles digging into your sides, though. The adjustable straps are relatively out-of-sight. The best car backseat organizers are ideal for car rides both long and short. The organizers can often hold iPads like a mini-TV, so your kids can watch something without having to physically hold their tablets. There are so many pockets that your kids will be able to bring multiple toys into the car. They also have built-in cup holders, which is great news if your car is short on drink receptacles. Two

WATCH: Cars swept away streets flooded with sewage as Corsica hit by FLASH FLOODS

Gambar
After a reportedly calm morning, the Corsican capital of Ajaccio was throttled by 103mm (four inches) of rain in just two hours, triggering flash flooding across the city, wreaking havoc on residents and businesses alike. Intense thunderstorms localized over Ajaccio at around 11:30am local time on Thursday. The flooding began with an initial shower which dropped 40mm (1.5 inches) of rain in half an hour.  The storm then gathered pace as it continued into the afternoon and, after drainage systems were overwhelmed, city workers scrambled to replace burst sewer drain covers.  As eyewitness footage from the scene shows, cars and dumpsters were tossed around like toys by the flood waters.  The local fire department asked residents to shelter in place so they could limit the number of emergencies; one firefighter was injured during rescue operations.  Meanwhile, schools were dismissed early and the flooding worsened as the day progressed.  Storm barriers have been erected

This Rare US Air Force Jeep Pedal Car From 1958 Has Really Shot Up in Value

It spent two years at the McLean County Museum of History in Bloomington, Illinois, before making its way to the auction house. If you're hoping to snag one for your collection, this might be your best chance short of getting on an episode of American Pickers. Bidding will open at 1 p.m. EDT on June 17 and run through 11 a.m. on June 24, so you've got a whole week to bid the price up to well over the auction estimate of $1,200-$1,800. Got a tip? For $62 Million This LA Mansion with a 15-Car Garage Can Be Yours

From Car and Driver This $62 million Los Angeles mansion comes with a 15-car "auto gallery," an adult version of a toy racetrack, and a racing simulator. At 15,642 square feet, this home looks like a playhouse for any auto enthusiast with deep pockets. Beyond the price tag, what's not to like? This LA mansion is a dangerous combination of a passion for cars and arguably too much money, but that's what makes it perfect for the uber-wealthy car enthusiast. The only thing that it may be missing is a life-size racetrack, but if you're spending $62 million on a home, odds are good paying for track time wouldn't be too much of an added burden. The home, at 1301 Collingwood in Los Angeles, comes with a 15-car "auto gallery" (per the listing, but admittedly, it is more gallery than garage) that looks to be inspired by none other than Batman's Batcave. According to the Wall Street Journal, the home belongs to Kipp Nelson, a former partner at investment ba

Project Cars 3 is trying to be the racing sim that will appeal to everyone

Gambar
The world of racing sims is rarely seen to be the most approachable of genres. Dripping in jargon and technicalities that can feel like another language to those not versed in gears and gizmos, it can be a daunting genre to get involved with. But Project Cars 3, despite its position as a highly rated racing simulator, is aiming to strip down the walls between sim and arcade racer, and hopefully entice a few new players along the way too.  "We had a concern that simulators and racing sims were kind of seen as fairly po-faced and fairly technical and fairly dry, and not welcoming. A little bit elitist, maybe," says Pete Morrish, production director on Project Cars 3.  "While we've still got what we're renowned for, which is that amazing sandbox and toy set of loads of different cars and loads of different tracks and loads of different weather conditions that you can combine in whatever way you see fit – we popped on top of that a whole metagame, and a whole caree
