  • Two U.K. sisters have been trying to get some Mcdonald's food after staying at home for several weeks due to the government's lockdown measures. When authorities gradually relaxed the strict isolation policies, they felt it was time to get their fix at the famous fast-food chain.

    Lockdown Fatigue

Taz Martin, a resident of Wisbech, Cambridgeshire located East of England, told South West News Service that her daughters may have been feeling lockdown fatigue, which prompted them to crave for a McDonald's food. The U.K. was among the countries in Europe to impose strict stay-at-home orders, which eventually became a full lockdown, during the early stages of the pandemic. Weeks stretched into months as government authorities tried their best to prevent the spread of the virus.

When coronavirus cases in the country declined, authorities slowly relaxed lockdown measures and allowed some businesses to open. It was during this time that Martin's two daughters, 13-year-old Dannielle and 9-year-old Teigan, asked if they could buy food from McDonald's. Taz, their mother, however, denied their request citing the expected massive crowd that would definitely flock to shops like McDonald's.

    No Backing Down

Unperturbed with their mom's refusal, the two sisters asked their mom if they could go on their own. The sisters suggested they borrow two Little Tikes Cozy Coupes from their babysitter and pass by the McDonald's drive-thru section. The plastic single-seaters reportedly surpassed the Ford Fiesta as the most popular car in the U.K. earlier this year. Their mother took them up on the offer, let them ride the cars, and recorded the entire trip to McDonald's Wisbech location.

Taz followed the daring sisters from her vehicle as they struggled to navigate the tiny rides in the rain along the cobblestone lane of the McDonald's drive-thru. According to their mom, there was even a time when the toy car ridden by Teigan tipped over, but the 9-year-old insisted she is okay. "I didn't think they were actually going to go through with it, but they've been trying for ages to find a McDonald's near us that is open," their mother told a local news outlet.

    An Evening Trip

Their mother revealed that they made the trip at around 9:30 in the evening to ensure there were only a few customers. McDonald's staff were delighted at the effort made by the sisters, and they went home with their Happy Meal.
